The ingredient library

More than a name on a label.

What it is. Where it comes from. Why we use it. What we know about it.

Understand the ingredients
in your formulas.

Origin, the part of the plant, the extraction method, standardisation and concentration all change what actually ends up in a formula.

That is why, in the Tivona library, we try to say more than the name of the ingredient.

How we select ingredients
  • What it is

The identity of the ingredient and the form we use it in.

  • Where it comes from

Its origin and how it is obtained.

  • What it does in a formula

The cosmetic role we use it for.

  • What we know about it

The data available on the ingredient, and its limits.

Ingredient in focus

Lavender

Lavandula angustifolia

Cut at dawn and steam-distilled the same morning. Linalool and linalyl acetate are the two molecules that matter: together they quiet the neurogenic side of inflammation, which is why lavender water settles a flushed cheek faster than a plain humectant.
