Pigmentation

Pigmentation is a signalling problem. Melanocytes are being told to work — by UV, by inflammation, by hormones — and they keep working after the trigger is gone. Every credible protocol starts by blocking the signal.

How it reads
Uneven tone, marks that linger after a blemish, patches that darken each summer.
Mechanism
Melanocyte overactivity driven by UV, heat and inflammation
Honest timeline
Twelve weeks minimum, photographed in the same light — and it fails entirely without daily SPF
Often arrives with
Dull skin · Loss of firmness · Blemishes

Processes involved

The biology
underneath

  1. Tyrosinase activationTyrosinase is the rate-limiting enzyme in melanin synthesis. Most brightening actives either inhibit it directly or reduce the signals that switch it on.
  2. Melanosome transferPigment made in the melanocyte is packaged and handed to surrounding cells. Interrupting that handover lightens tone without touching pigment production at all.
  3. Inflammatory signallingProstaglandins and cytokines from inflammation stimulate melanin synthesis directly — which is why calming skin fades marks faster than bleaching it.

Why it happens

  1. UV exposure, including the incidental daily kind through a window.
  2. Post-inflammatory response after acne, eczema or an aggressive treatment.
  3. Hormonal melasma, which sits deeper and is far more stubborn.
  4. Visible light and heat, which most sunscreens do not address at all.

When to see someone else

Any pigmented lesion that changes shape, colour or border needs a dermatologist, not a serum. Melasma also responds better to prescription protocols than to cosmetics alone.

What has evidence here

Each active carries its own entry in the library, with mechanism, origin and the products it appears in.

Recommended ritual

Ritual pentru uniformizare

Three steps, and daylight protection is the active one. Without it the other two are cosmetic. Twelve weeks before you photograph the difference.
